Mantua's "Commemorative State Box Cars" collection. This collection of boxcars represent each of the US states. The information which has been pieced together from corresponding with Mantua and other collectors indicates that only 38 of the states are known to have been produced. These collection of cars were made between 1979 and 1981. The cars were produced in nine "Series" or groups and may have been sold geographically. Mantua reports that because of the lack of interests in the cars during the time of there production, the collection was never finished, and that all the remaining stock was sold off in a bulk sale of some 100,000 to 175,000 individual cars in 1982.
